Mais Yoga Por Favor Project
July, 2016 – December, 2017
Created by Joyce Bernt and Fernanda Thedim, Mais Yoga Por Favor (More Yoga, Please) is a beautiful charity project that offers free Yoga classes in exchange for donations to non-profit organizations that help the underprivileged in Rio de Janeiro. Every month, it gathers around 100 people to practice Yoga, share love and friendship in a beautiful outdoor setting. I have had the privilege to contribute both as one of the organizers and as an instructor since it started in July of 2016, until December 2017 when I left Brazil.
Yoga and Ecoturism Retreat
November 17-20, 2017. Paraty, Brazil
This retreat took place in a beautiful hotel hidden in the hills and amongst the lush vegetation that characterizes the south coast of Rio de Janeiro (Mata Atlantica), near the historical city of Paraty. It was a wonderful partnership between me and Fernanda Tomassini, a great friend and Yoga teacher, where we led Yoga and meditation sessions surrounded by nature, waterfalls, spiritual energy from a Hare Krishna temple and amazing vegetarian food.
Women’s Retreat: an immersion on your cyclic nature
August 4-6, 2017. Teresópolis, Brazil
In partnership with Julia Laitano, this was a blissful two-day immersion for women to reconnect with their divine cyclic energy (female energy), the energy of birth- death- rebirth. , yd ar)With the intention to assist the participants on a journey to connect with the lunar and fertility cycles and to embrace all the faces of the Goddess and female archetypes, I led Yoga sessions and Julia the women’s circles. We danced around a bonfire, shared, create, laughed, cried, listened and did rites of passage and ceremonies for each stage of the feminine circle of life. It was a beautiful and very intense encounter.

Mastering inversion poses such as sirsasana (headstand), adho mukha vrksasana (handstand) and pincha mayurasana (forearm balance), takes time, daily practice and effort. The goal of this workshop was to provide students with pys a deeper understanding of these poses via step-by-step exercises that lead to a given inversion. The ultimate goal of this workshop is to build students’ confidence and to provide them with tools that they can apply to their own practice.
